Terms of Service

These terms govern commissions, alterations, and related services provided by Finch & Co. Tailors ("we", "our", "the workshop") at 1024 Fort Street, Victoria, BC V8V 3K4. By engaging our services you accept these terms.

1. Scope of services

We provide the following services, all performed on-site at our Fort Street workshop:

• Bespoke suits — fully custom suits from hand-drafted patterns.
• Custom shirts — made-to-measure shirts in Thomas Mason and Albini cotton.
• Alterations — expert alterations for suits, dresses, formalwear, bridal, and heirloom garments.

2. Consultations and quotes

Initial consultations are free and carry no obligation. Firm quotes for alterations are provided after we have seen the garment on the body at a fitting; phone or email quotes are estimates only and subject to revision on inspection.

3. Bespoke commission payment structure

• 50% deposit is payable at the cutting stage (typically at week 1, after measurement and cloth selection).
• 50% balance is payable at delivery (final fitting).
• The deposit is refundable only if cancellation occurs before cutting begins.
• Once cloth has been cut, the deposit is non-refundable.
• Longer payment plans are available on request.

4. Alterations payment

Alteration work is payable in full at garment pickup unless alternative arrangements are made at drop-off. Rush service carries a 30–50% surcharge.

5. Turnaround times

Quoted timelines reflect typical production under normal workshop conditions:

• Bespoke suits: 6–8 weeks from first fitting.
• Custom shirts: 3–4 weeks for a first shirt; 10–14 days for repeats.
• Alterations: 1–2 weeks standard; rush available.
• Bridal alterations: 3–8 weeks depending on scope.

Delays may occur where cloth is on backorder from the mill or where a fitting reveals unforeseen construction complexity. We will communicate any delay promptly.

6. Cancellations and refunds

• Before cutting (bespoke) — full deposit refund.
• After cutting (bespoke) — deposit is non-refundable; balance is not due if the commission is abandoned.
• Alterations, pre-start — no charge; garment returned.
• Alterations, post-start — pro-rata charge based on work completed.

7. Fittings and appointments

Fittings are by appointment only. We request 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. Missed appointments without notice may incur a rescheduling fee of $50.

8. Honest-advice policy

We reserve the right to decline alteration work where we reasonably believe the work will not meaningfully improve the garment, will compromise the garment's structure, or exceeds the physical limits of the cloth. We will communicate the reasoning and suggest alternatives.

9. Patterns on file

Patterns drafted for bespoke commissions are retained at the workshop for the lifetime of the business or until the client requests destruction. Pattern records are the property of the client and will be deleted within five business days of a written request to hello@finchandco.ca.

10. Rental-garment alterations

We undertake alterations on rental garments (tuxedos, formalwear, court robes) only where the rental shop has explicitly permitted the work. The client is responsible for confirming rental-shop permissions and providing any rental contract documentation on request.

11. Warranties and post-delivery service

We stand behind every garment that leaves the workshop. Minor adjustments after delivery (small fit tweaks, a loose button, a stitch that has slipped) are provided at no charge in the first three months after delivery. Post-three-month adjustments are priced as standard alterations.

12. Limitation of liability

Our liability for any loss or damage arising from our services is limited to the fee paid for the specific service. We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be excluded by law.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of British Columbia.
