Bespoke Tailoring for Discerning Uplands Clients
Off-the-rack doesn't account for real proportions
Industry sizing averages shoulders, chest, and waist across thousands of men. If your proportions differ from that average — and most do — every off-the-rack suit is a compromise. The shoulders pull. The chest gaps. Tailoring can fix some of that, not all of it.
"Custom" overseas isn't a relationship
Several retailers offer "custom" suits adjusted from a shared block in an overseas factory. You fill out a form, supply your own measurements, and receive one fitting at most. If the fit is wrong, your options are limited and there is no ongoing relationship with the person who made it.
The Vancouver alternative costs a working day per fitting
A proper bespoke suit requires three or more fittings. If the nearest qualified tailor is across the ferry, each appointment means a half-day or full day lost. Most clients on Vancouver Island end up settling rather than making that trip three times over six weeks.
The Commission Process
Consultation
Free, 30 minutes. Discuss style, occasion, and timeline. Fabric library walk-through. No commitment required.
Basted Fitting
Three to four weeks later. The half-built jacket is tried on. Shoulder, chest, and waist are refined before final construction.
Collection
Final fitting and hand-over at six to eight weeks. Your hand-drafted pattern is kept on file for future commissions.

Serving Uplands and the Surrounding District
Uplands is one of Greater Victoria's most established residential areas, characterized by large properties along Cadboro Bay Road and within Uplands Park. The community around Royal Victoria Yacht Club and Glenlyon-Norfolk School represents our highest concentration of flagship-tier bespoke commissions.
Clients in the area favour our Loro Piana and Dormeuil fabrics, held in-workshop for handling at consultation rather than ordered against swatches. Multi-suit wardrobe commissions are the norm: once the first bespoke suit is complete and the pattern is on file, each subsequent commission -- a second jacket, a formal suit in a different cloth, a pair of matching trousers -- requires considerably less of the client's time.
Privacy and discretion are built into the service model. One client at a time, no walk-in traffic during fittings, and no discussion of one client's commission with another. Clients who want appointments outside our standard Tuesday-Saturday hours can request this at the initial consultation.

Questions from Uplands Clients
How do multi-suit wardrobe commissions typically develop for Uplands clients?
+
Most start with a bespoke two-piece suit in the flagship fabric tier. With the pattern on file, a second commission -- a sport coat, a matching pair of trousers, or a formal suit in a different cloth -- requires one basted fitting rather than the full initial sequence. Clients near Cadboro Bay Road tend to build wardrobes over several years this way, with each successive commission taking less of their time.
Do you offer private appointments for clients who prefer no workshop overlap?
+
Yes, by arrangement. Clients who prefer no overlap with regular workshop traffic can request early-morning or end-of-day appointments when the workshop is closed to other clients. Please mention this preference at the initial consultation and we will confirm the availability.
What heirloom and restoration work do you handle?
+
Invisible mending, structural resizing, and fabric repair on older wool suits. Heirloom pieces from Victoria families appear in our work regularly, including some from clients near Uplands Park. We assess each garment at a no-charge appointment before committing to any structural work -- and decline when the cloth cannot hold what is required.
